The rest of her teammates combined to shoot 28.2 percent from the floor, but the Red Storm collectively shot the same and were outrebounded by UConn 57-36. Maya Moore had 11 of those boards and 12 points. Caroline Doty also scored a dozen in the uncharacteristic close final.
The only record that was seriously threatened down the stretch was UConn's streak of defeating opponents by double-digits during their incredible run. The win was the second-smallest margin of victory for the team this season, having topped fellow national power Stanford 80-68 in December.
Nadirah McKenith posted 15 points and 11 rebounds for St. John's (20-5, 8-4), while Joy McCorvey scored 10 in the loss, its second in the last nine games.
The Huskies were up 34-26 at halftime and Charles put in 13 straight points for UConn early in the second half to gain a 49-32 lead with under 12 minutes left.
A late 10-2 run by the Red Storm got the visitors as close as 59-44 with five minutes to go, but the Huskies put the game away from there at the free throw line.

Chicago Bears (+350) - The Bears are probably a bit of an overhyped team once again this year.No, we don't think it is plausible for QB Jay Cutler to have as bad of a season as he did last year, and we do think the additions of RB Chester Taylor and DE Julius Peppers are going to help immensely, but there's still something in the water in the Windy City that we aren't so sure about. There is some real talent amassing on this team offensively, as the combination of QB Matt Stafford, RB Jahvid Best, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Brandon Pettigrew should put a bunch of points on the board if the offensive line can even remotely hold up. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.
