Bengals finalize deal with top pick Gresham
Football Betting Lines
08/03/2010 - Georgetown, KY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Cincinnati Bengals have signed tight end Jermaine Gresham, their first round draft choice.
Terms of the deal were not made available, but the Cincinnati Enquirer reported it to be a five-year deal worth $15.85 million, with $9.6 million guaranteed.
"Jermaine is an exceptionally talented player at his position, even among first-round draft choices," said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. "He's also tough and a hard worker. He puts his talent to use. We expect him to make an impact on our offense this season."
The 6-foot-5, 261-pound Gresham did not play last season for Oklahoma after suffering a knee injury, but that did not dissuade the Bengals from using the 21st overall selection in the 2010 NFL Draft on him. He participated in all of the club's offseason drills.
As a junior in 2008, Gresham caught 66 passes for 950 yards and 14 touchdowns and was a finalist for the Mackey Award, given annually to the nation's top tight end.
During his three years with the Sooners, he made 111 receptions for 1,629 yards and 26 scores.
The Bengals on Tuesday also cut rookie free agent defensive end Rahim Alem.
